Trailhead Mt. Wilson Trailhead

Slow and steady made it to the top in 5 hours with one 30 min break and several 1-2 min breaks. Coming down my toes starting hurting and put my pace almost to a crawl. I had expected to descend in 3 hours but took almost 4.5 hours with one 15 min break and few minute breaks. I’ll likely look into getting new hiking shoes/boots.

  1. Glad you made it, Bich! I recommend REI for boots. They aren’t the cheapest, but you can return a pair if they don’t work — all the way up to a year later! With boots, it’s a very individual thing, so what works for one person will give blisters to another. They can also help with proper fitting and give tips on lacing.

TIP: Tighten the laces around the “front” of your foot before a long downhill so your toes don’t get shoved into the end of your shoe.

  2. Great job! We are going up on the 29th with probably the same results! But with the extra motivation from your report.
    Thank you!

And yes check into lacing techniques and I second the rei recommendation
