Peak Mt Wilson

Trailhead Chantry Flat

The hike was great! I guess I can say that now that I’ve finished it. I earned it. 😊

Being new to hiking, I thought it’d be good to hike it with someone who can push me when it becomes challenging so I asked a friend who’s a marathoner, spartan/iron woman and veteran hiker to come with me. My favorite photo shows the many times my friend had to wait for me. While I was crawling my way up, she was resting and editing all the photos she’d taken so far. I often joked about how her 5-year old son could probably hike it much faster than I.

I wanted to quit at 3.5 miles but telling my mind that I can do it, one step at a time, pushed my body to finish the hike! It took 9 hours of crawling. And I’m grateful for my friend who waited for me and didn’t leave me despite the fact that she could have finished it in probably 2 hours.

Other than me taking too slow, we didn’t encounter any challenges. We took our time during lunch at Cosmic Cafe, which reopened that day. And then headed back at the same slow pace.

It never occurred to me that I will ever hike in my life, but after being introduced and being open to it, I now seek it. Hiking has healed me in many ways, literally and figuratively. Late last year, when I was thinking of taking on this challenge, I hiked Mt. Wilson while recovering from a procedure. It took me 10 hours. And although I was still crawling this time around, I was so happy to have finished the first peak of the challenge!

On to the next!🙌🏾
