Trailhead Chantry Flats, Sturtevant Falls

We got to the trailhead by 8 am, trail started out decending down to the creekbed floor. It was a beautiful creekside stroll the first 3 miles. There are a few camps along the way leading up to Sturtevant camp. We stopped there briefly to have a cup of coffee and explore the facility. I think this was the only 6 Pack hike I’ll do where I actually got to play a guitar since there was one at camp.

After Sturtevant the honeymoon ended pretty fast, its just a much more aggressive climb those last 3 miles. We came across more and more snow until we came to the summit which was covered. We saw residents up there shoveling snow… in LA! I was pretty best at this point and had to take a long break.

The cafe was closed, but there was still free coffee and cocoa up there. The way down was pretty fast, but we still had to use flashlights the last hour and a half. Hikes usually take me 30-40% longer to complete than the projected times I see online. I’m a bigger guy and travel a bit slower. Took us 11 hours all in all to finish including the hour break on the Summit and maybe twenty minute visit to Sturtevant camp.
