Trailhead Ice House Saddle

On Friday, April 21st we summitted Cucamonga Peak. The trail up to the saddle was free of snow and only patches of snow can be found beyond that until you reach the 7,800ft level on the Cucamonga trail. From there we made a mad dash on our own trail up the side of the mountain. We carried full gear including helmet, ice axe, crampons, and microspikes with us since we were not sure what we would encounter. The majority of the snow was soft and slushy so we used our microspikes and had the ice axe in hand for stabilization and safety in the event we slipped and slid down. The last stretch to the summit was completely snow covered so it was vital we knew where we were going. Luckily, we are very familiar with the area and soon made it to the summit. We had the peak to ourselves for an hour. We started to pack up to head down and were met by five other hikers who had made their way up. It was a great day for a tough, but beautiful hike!!!
