Trailhead Vivian Creek

We started up on Monday night after dinner at Thelma’s in Big Bear. Think we were on the trail around 8:45 pm. It was nice and cool, great hiking weather. Ran into a handful of people on the way up (maybe 6-10). Packed light and stayed the night just a little below High Creek. Made the mistake of only taking sleeping bags rated for 55 degrees and no sleeping pads (trying to do it quick and dirty for an overnight- day packs!). Unfortunately, it got a bit below 55 degrees and we spent a very cold and uncomfortable night out. Got up about 6ish and tagged the summit by 8:30 a.m. Beautiful, clear, and crisp. We had the summit to ourselves for at least 20 minutes as we watched chipmunks eat paper out of the summit registers. Tried to put up some roadblocks so they would leave it all alone. Decided to count heads on the way down because I thought it would be more crowded and came up with 42 people heading up that day. After packing up camp and heading down we got to the creek bed by 1:30 and followed up with lunch at the little Mexican food place in town (highly recommend!).
