Trailhead San Bernardino

Woke up wildly early to make the nearly 2 hour drive from LA. Was able to park in the lot without issue and began hiking around 7:30am. I met a local that walks around the trail with his two white huskies. He mentioned there were over 300 people on the mountain the previous weekend, so I was relieved that while I saw people consistently through the day, it was nothing like that.

My goal was to get to Limber Pines and then rest and eat some food before pushing up the last 2 miles to the peak. I will say there are some challenging stretches up to Limber Pines but overall I thought that while its a long hike, it is not a steep one. After the views are incredible including the bench and the where the Washington Monument is located.

I’m not sure what inspired me to grab my running shoes and chuck them in my bag, but on my way up I noticed the trail is pretty smooth below Limber Pines. So I actually threw my shoes on and had a very comfortable walk back to the trailhead. I found the hardest part of this hike that the walk backdown the mountain, while not “challenging” psychically feels endlessly long after a long day on the mountain. Personally, overall I found Cucamonga a tougher hike!
