Peak Mt Baldy
Group N/A
Trailhead Manker Flats

Our Baldy plan was hike up the ski hut trail and come down the backbone and get food/beer at the Notch before heading back to the cars. It was a hot day in So Cal but the weather up on Baldy if you weren’t slogging up a steep part in the sun was actually pleasant. We brought microspikes and poles (I’ll never descend that backside without poles again – my knees are old like me!). I only need the microspikes on the shaded tree section just past the ski hut and before the open steep sandy stuff. The summit was nice. We chilled our adventure beer can in the snow and enjoyed the view. A couple of gliders flew above us (wind was still) and a guy was flying his drone on the summit. Just after the descent off the top where the trail becomes more level we a 3-4 big horn sheep! I couldn’t believe it! My first time seeing Big Horn outside of Anza Borrego. We celebrated with beer/food at the Notch and down at the Lodge. A long but great day!
