Expected temps in the 90’s motivated the Superfriends Duo to start our ascent at 6:09am from Manker Campgound. Hiking up fireroad, we arrived at the Notch at 7:26 to find restrooms in full service thus allowing us to top off our water. After some chair lift shenanigans we pushed up the desert view trail that follows the ridge line towards Devil’s Backbone and were confronted with the stark and precarious nature of Devil’s Backbone. After several photos and gazing in awe, we continued up to the summit with ascent time of 4hr exactly with more photos and shenanigans. The descent was uneventful as we plunged into the canyon below with the warm air greeting for us. Just as my 2L hydration pack was emptied, we arrived at the ski hut to soak our feet in stream and filter an additional liter. Carrying 3L is ideal with refill stations at Notch and the Ski Hut.
