Trailhead Chantry Flats

Set out today at 6:30 from Chantry Flats. I made it to Sturtevant Falls with out seeing anyone else on the trail. I managed to get a nice moment to myself before heading back to the Gabrielino trail junction where, using my expert navigation skills, I managed to march all the way to Hermit Falls before realizing my error. (In case you’re wondering; Yes I had a map and very detailed directions…which remained on my kitchen table throughout my adventure.

Not to be defeated, I returned to the junction and took the correct trail to Mt. Wilson. Everything is so green right now, it’s an excellent time to go.

About half way up my legs decided to start cramping and did not stop despite the copious amounts of water I drank the night before and during the trip. (Note to self: Always bring BANANAS!) An elderly woman who told me she was 87 took pity on me and gave me hers.

Finally I reached the summit and started back down, proud, but battered. On my way down, I passed a fellow Six Packer wearing her t-shirt so we shared a moment of solidarity before I continued on.

In summary, it was everything I love about hiking. It was adventurous, a little painful, and exhausting.

On to the next one.
