Trailhead Manker Flats

On Friday, March 24th we summitted Mt. Baldy (Mt. San Antonio). This hike was dedicated to my daughter’s friend and dance teammate Carlie, who had undergone life saving heart surgery the day before. The trail from Manker Flats to the ski hut was fairly clear of snow, however, beyond that skillful mountaineering was required to make it to the summit. At the top, it was cold and windy; which is common for the summit. We searched for the plaque to take a picture with but realized that a shovel would have been required to dig it out of the snow. All of the rock shelters were hidden under the snow so we didn’t spend too much time hanging out. We returned the way of the ski hut route to avoid the ever so dangerous backbone. It was a great hike, and an honor to have done it for Carlie!!!
