Peak San Jacinto
Group Friends
Trailhead Sid Davis

The beginning part of our hike was smooth for the most part. In the beginning we used micro spikes, then switched to snow shoes once we walked into an open valley. The ascent on Sid Davis is where things got fun, it took roughly 3 hours to snow shoe up the mountain. While looking at stunning views on the way up I started to get hungry. Thinking of the menu at the tram station restaurant I read the previous day, I started to crave steak. And as the ascent was getting more difficult, I convinced myself to keep up with the group with the reward of a Porterhouse steak and a cold beer! We finally made it to a ridge and thinking it was the peak I looked to my left, but with disappointment it looked like we had a little more ways to climb. Earlier in the day I had friendly debate with my friend, and I was convinced that the peak to the left of us was a different mountain that we saw earlier in the valley. But she argued that it was San Jacinto, and that I was thinking of the mountain 2 peaks over that had a smaller elevation. I guess she was right, so I swallowed my pride and we kept marching up. We finally made it to the peak and we celebrated with hot cocoa, apple cider and tea. On the way down, we turned a 3 hour ascent into 20 minutes of glissading. Now it was time for steak and beer! We made it back to the tram station only to find out we needed reservations for the restaurant. Looks like no steak for me. We ended up eating at the cafeteria and I still had a beer. All in all, It was definitely a great day!
