Peak Mt Wilson
Group N/A
Trailhead Chantry Flat

First Peak of Six
Mt. Wilson
16 mile day detours and a wrong turn lol.
4100 elevation gain.
This hike was tougher than I expected . We did the Chantry loop with a detour to see Sturtevant Falls and then doubled back to catch the trail. We took the Gabrielino trail till it split then we took the lower Gabrielino to Sturtevant Trail to Mt. Wilson. Once you pass the Sturtevant Camp you will quickly realize it’s time to put in the work & boy we did. It’s demoralizing when you think you’ve got a good pace going and you’re pushing yourself hard and a trail runner passes you like nothing lol #goals. After reaching the top of Mt. Wilson we took the Mt. Wilson trail down till it hit the Old Mt. Wilson toll road. Then after a bit Mt Wilson Trail picked back up until we came to a junction and we took the Winter Creek trail back to Chantry Flats. Living in the area most of my life and never realized these trails existed.

  1. Great photos, Roger! Don’t sweat it when someone passes you on the trail. Just remember that there will ALWAYS be someone faster than you, but you are out there and getting it done. And that’s WAY better than most people sitting at home on their couch.

  2. Hi Chris,

It took us 4 hours to the summit, but we took a detour to Sturtevant Falls. I would guess that added 45 minutes to the hike. I would recommend skipping the detour only because the trail will take you above the falls so you really won’t miss anything.
