SoCal Hiker Goes Live (sort of)

Anza-Borrego-155-300x225Welcome to SoCalHiker.net. I am a hiker and backpacker living in Southern California, and I’m here to share my favorite hikes and backpack trips. My focus will be primarily on local hikes, with some longer trips that may require a day of travel. I don’t profess to be an expert outdoorsman, but I do have many years of experience, and I’m willing to share what I know in the hope that you’ll share your knowledge and expertise in return. In my experience, hikers are a great bunch of people, and by sharing through our local hiking community, we all benefit.

On a personal note, this coming August I’ll be embarking on a significant backpacking trip, hiking the entire John Muir Trail — the “JMT” —  over 330 miles from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney over three weeks. A trip of this magnitude requires considerable training and planning, and I’ll be setting up an entire section devoted to the JMT. I successfully backpacked the JMT once before — back in 1980. This August will mark exactly 30 years from that first trip. A nice anniversary, don’t you think?
