What gear do you carry on the John Muir Trail (JMT?)

I have a number of people ask about the JMT, and what gear they should take. I’m going to put together a summary of what we actually took on our last JMT thru-hike, but I thought I’d open up the discussion to others.

What did YOU take on the JMT? And perhaps more importantly, what would you do differently next time?
