Weeklong Backpacking Trip Suggestions

I have a permit to hike the first half of the JMT from July 3rd - 11th this year. Thick snow is covering the passes and a big melt is not anticipated. I need a backup plan. Does anyone have suggestions for a 7-10 day backpackjing trip in CA or AZ where I wouldn't encounter much snow (the kind of snow that would require an ice axe and spikes to get through) in early July?
