Hi!
I’m a college student who’s going to be in LA (Burbank) for the summer, and I was wondering what you suggest doing to find a good hiking partner. I’ve been looking at hikes and am now drooling over the idea of the 6 pack bundle of peaks, culminating in climbing Whitney at the end of my stay. However, I know it’s not a good idea to hike alone, especially up mountains (even if they are walk ups). So, as you seem to be really knowledgeable, I was hoping you might have some advice for finding a hiking partner!
Thanks!
Griff, I highly suggest checking out the hiking groups at Meetup.com as a starting point. There are a variety of groups depending on the level of hike you’re after, and it’s a great way to meet other active hikers.
You might also check out #hikerchat on Twitter each Friday at 9am Pacific. There are hikers from all over the world participating, and quite a few from SoCal.
I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding companions for your SoCal hiking adventures.
