Drew, the best place in SoCal for a 3-4 day backpacking trip in early May? Easy! It’s the Trans-Catalina Trail. It’s an hour away from LA via ferry, and May is the best time to hike it IMO.

There’s also the Sespe Creek to Willet Hotsprings. It’s a 2-3 day trip, the weather would be gorgeous in Ojai, and there’s a ton of water that’s running (so you don’t need to carry a ton of water on your back).
