Hiking JMT in late June. I understand transportation to Yosemite is limited from Reno in June. Would flying in to Sacramento be better, being it’s on the west side of JMT? Do buses or Amtrak take you to Yosemite visitor center?

Your best bet on the eastern side is flying into Mammoth Lakes (MMH):

    1. Take a private shuttle or taxi to the Mammoth Lakes Park & Ride – Corner of Tavern at Old Mammoth Rd.
    2. Take the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) to Yosemite.

On the west side, you have three options:

    From San Francisco (SFO)

    1. Take the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) from the San Francisco International Airport north towards Pittsburg/Baypoint.
    2. Exit at the 19th St/Oakland station, and transfer to the Fremont/Richmond line north towards Richmond.
    3. Exit at the Richmond Transit Station, and take the Amtrak San Joaquin line southbound towards Bakersfield. Lines 712, 714 and 716 head to Yosemite.
Exit at the Merced Amtrak Station.
    4. From the Merced Amtrak Station, take the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) to Yosemite

    From Oakland (OAK)

    1. Take the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) AirBART shuttle to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station.
    2. From the Coliseum/ Oakland Airport Station, take the Fremont/Richmond line north towards Richmond.
    3. Exit at the Richmond Transit Station, and take the Amtrak San Joaquin line southbound towards Bakersfield. Lines 712, 714 and 716 head to Yosemite.
    4. Exit at the Merced Amtrak Station.
    5. From the Merced Amtrak Station, take the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) to Yosemite.

    From San Jose (SJC)

    1. Take the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Airport Flyer, Bus to, to the Metro/Airport Light Rail Station.
    2. From the Metro/Airport Light Rail Station, take the Mountain View / Winchester light rail line south towards Winchester.
    3. Exit at the San Jose Diridon station.
    4. From the San Jose Diridon station, take the Amtrak California Thruway Bus Connection to the San Joaquin line southbound. Thruway buses 3912, 3914 and 3916 head to Yosemite. These buses connect to train lines 712, 714 and 716 respectively.
    5. Exit at the Richmond Station and board the Amtrak train on the San Joaquin line southbound towards Bakersfield. Lines 712, 714 and 716 head to Yosemite.
    6. Exit at the Merced Amtrak Station.
    7. From the Merced Amtrak Station, take the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) to Yosemite.

    Hope this helps!
