Cathy L. asks:
Hello! I was reading about your trip on the JMT and have been inspired to make my own trip this year! Along your trip you had a stops at a few resupply points. I was informed by the permit office that I cannot stop at these resupply points if I have a wilderness permit because those locations are considered front country not back country. Did you apply for multiple permits along the route?
Cathy, I have NEVER heard any say anything about this. I cannot say that it’s not true; just that most JMT thru-hikers routinely get a permit for the entire trail (usually starting in Yosemite) and still stop to resupply. I can also tell you that I personally did not get multiple permits on either of my two JMT thru-hikes. You are the first person I’ve ever heard mention of this.
I’ll ask a few other JMT-ers to chime in, but as far as I know, you only need the one permit.
