Mt San Jacinto – Marion Mt Trail Pink Stuff

I just hiked Mt San Jacinto last Saturday, Nov 18 on the Marion Mountain trail and encountered pink stuff on nearby boulders, trees and plants about 2.5 miles into the ascent (around the 8,500 ft mark). Any idea what this is? Has someone put it there or it it some kind of parasite? [attachment file=399685]
