Has anyone else in the LA area had trouble tracking down the annual Adventure Pass? I’ve called several places and they all seem to be sold out. I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s the first of the year, or it has to do with all the problems they seem to be having with the pass system anyways. I’ve read a bunch of articles about a class action lawsuit and changes in the pass system.

    Thanks!

Okay thanks! It might just be a “first of the year,” thing then.

Yes, there are reports on Reddit that a lot of places haven’t received their 2017 Adventure Passes yet. I did learn that if you have a National Parks Annual Pass, you don’t need an Adventure Pass! The NP pass is $80 for a year, so it’s only $50 more than the annual Adventure Pass, and if you go take three national park visits, it pays for itself.

Hi Mo! Check out Jeff’s response. I really suggest looking into a National Parks annual pass! Its called an “America the Beautiful” pass and costs $80 for 1 year. This covers entrance fees to all national parks and national recreational lands, including national forests (San Bernardino National Forest, Angeles National Forest, etc.). National Parks regularly cost $20 entrance, so this quickly pays for itself. A bonus is that it encourages you to explore more parks, too! National Parks passes can be ordered online or picked up in store at REI; just be sure to call them ahead of time to make sure they have some in stock. Happy trails 🙂
