Movie Review: Wayfaring – A Jaunt Along the Camino de Santiago

Wayfaring - a Jaunt Along the Camino de Santiago

The Camino de Santiago is a long trail that beings in France, and travels roughly 500 miles west to Santiago, Spain. The trail began centuries ago as a religious pilgrimage, but has evolved to be a journey that means different things to different people.

Unlike many of the long trails in the United States, this has a very different feel. You travel many miles on roads, or near them. You sleep at night in albergues with other pilgrims rather than in tents. You never need to carry a stove or much food with you, as you travel from village to village to city along the way.

So what is is actually like to walk the Camino? Our friend Scott “Squatch” Herriott of Flip-Flop-Flippin fame took his camera to Spain and found out. The result is Wayfaring – A Jaunt on the Camino de Santiago.

Wayfaring is an entertaining and honest look at what it’s really like to hike the Camino. Harriott does a great job of introducing us to a wide range of pilgrims on the Camino, and talks to them in a variety of moods, locations and occasions that really give you a sense of what it’s like. It’s fascinating to see people from all over the world, some of whom have hiked the Camino multiple times, and all of them making new friends and enjoying the experience.

It’s a great movie for anyone interested in the Camino, and I highly recommend you watch it before you commit to a trip there. The movie inspired me to put the Camino de Santiago on my life list.

Buon Camino!
